Saturday, August 13 was celebrated as National Airborne Day. National Airborne Day was held at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, Fayetteville, N.C. I photographed the event for my freelance agency ZUMA Press.
This year’s annual event commemorates the 71st anniversary of the Army Parachute Test Platoon’s first official jump and the tenth anniversary of the museum.
In 2002, President George W. Bush signed a proclamation slating August 16th as National Airborne Day in honor of “the first official Army parachute jump on August 16, 1940.”
Here’s a link to the actual proclamation.
