Snowy Sweetwater Creek

Snowy Sweetwater Creek

My wife and I headed out to Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs to see how much snow they got during the epic storm that hit last week.

While much of the snow had melted there was still plenty on the ground in ice along the creek.

Stone Mountain Covered Bridge

Stone Mountain Covered Bridge

Made a trip over to the east side of the Perimeter to Stone Mountain Park today.

I’ve been there probably three or four times before and never realized there was a covered bridge there. Doh!

Anyway, I found it today and here it is in HDR.

Atlanta Midtown in High Dynamic Range

Atlanta Midtown in High Dynamic Range

While downtown last weekend before the sun came up, it appeared there would be a good chance to experiment once again with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.

So, five exposures blended into one resulted in this.

Early morning Atlanta

Early morning Atlanta

One of the most picturesque skylines in the south has to be that of Atlanta.

While I will not miss the traffic, I will most definitely miss the scenery.

Photographed looking southeast near the I-75/I-85 split.

Checkmate - the King & Queen buildings

Checkmate – the King & Queen buildings

Locally known as the “King and Queen” buildings, these landmarks of the North Atlanta skyline have architectural crowns on the top of their buildings resembling those found on chess pieces. The architectural pair are formally known as the Concourse Corporate Center off Hammond Drive in the Perimeter area of Dunwoody/Sandy Springs near GA 400 and I-285 north of downtown Atlanta.

Fall colors at Lake Lanier

Fall colors at Lake Lanier

Took a little drive about an hour from home up to Lake Lanier today.

The fall colors are pretty much at or near peak so it was a great day to view the leaves against the clear blue sky.

You can also go across and down the hill to the down river side of the Buford Dam off Buford Dam road. There is a nice walking trail on the east side of the Chattahoochee River.

Oh, FYI. The last image in the gallery (the child’s slide and tire swing) is my first attempt at HDR (high dynamic range) photography.

Cochran Mill Waterfall

Cochran Mill Waterfall

After two weeks on the road, I took my wife to see the waterfall at Cochran Mill just outside the Douglas County line in south Fulton County.

All I can say is peace and serenity.

In Silent Watch

In Silent Watch

There is probably no more hallowed ground than Arlington National Cemetery. The grounds evoke a sense of peace in stark contrast to the ultimate sacrifice of the many who lie there in silent watch.

San Diego, Calif.

San Diego, Calif.

I attended the Nik Summit in San Diego in May. What a great town with plenty of photo ops at every turn.

Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon

It was a great night for moon-gazing as the Harvest Moon actually occurred on the first day of Fall. The sky was clear and the color was really spectacular.

Atlanta, Houston & Chesapeake Bay

Atlanta, Houston & Chesapeake Bay

Here’s a small sampling of some travel images I’ve made since 2007.

April in our Nation's Capital

April in our Nation’s Capital

While in Washington, D.C. for the Army Reserve 100th Anniversary celebration in 2008, I had an afternoon and evening off to explore many of the attractions inside the Beltway.
